Subject: Shy Teen
Question: Hi!
My 16 year old son is a good kid.
No big issues really, except that his friends all have girlfriends.
He is introverted but not shy,and a ‘thinker’-he doent use pick up lines or do the macho rapper thing that seems to work with the girls.
He has an opportunity to work part time stocking shelves.
Do you think this could help his development?
Answer: Dear Barry:
My son is a good kid. How does he need help for his development?
It is not uncommon for children to not have girlfriends and boyfriends. It he is shy he will probably grow out of it as his confidence in himself grows. You can help this by complimenting him and not thinking he needs to change something about himself.
As for the job, does he need the money, does he have time from school studies, does he want to? These are all questions to be addressed before I would comment on this question.
Sounds like you did a good job. Be at peace with yourself and your son. Let the development occur at his rate.
Best wishes,
M Kay Keller
