Questioner: Kenyatta
Subject: Restless
Question: Hello
My son just turned 1 last week. However, about amonth b4 his 1st b-day he started tossing and turning, sitting up and whining, crawling from the top of the bed to the foot, all while he is sleeping! I find this weird and I’m a little concerned. Is this teething? Is he a sleepcrawler?
Answer: Dear Kenyatta;
Sounds like you do have a sleep crawler on your hands. It is not weird at all and very common for children to walk in their sleep, talk in their sleep just like adults do. Ask around and see if you have any others in his family tree who do the same.
I am a strong advocate of massaging children before they go to bed (check out some of the other questions about bedtime routines for a full description of bedtime routines!).
Giving him a full body massage may help him to sleep more sound!
Best Wishes!
