Question: My son Troy is 10 years old his mother and I were divorced when he was 1. We both share physical and legal custody, no child support to either parent, everything has been working out great up through the 3rd grade.
Troy would go back and forth one week on one week off. Since 4th grade started Troy has been with our family for the school year and his moms for the summer. At the end of 5th grade this year she wants to change it but Troy does not get along with his step-dad and wants to keep it the way it is.
What should I do? (his moms household seems to be chaotic with no structure, Troy is very intelligent with a high IQ and seems to get overwhelmed when things are not on a routine)
Carl
Dear Carl:
Sounds to me like you already know what the answer is you just need someone else to say okay. Troy is doing fine with the way things are and he is sensitive to change. The alternatives do not sound supportive of keeping him on solid ground.
