Hi there,
My just turned 4 little boy has an obsession with Thomas the tank engine, to the point where all day yesterday he went on and on about this 1 engine that he couldn’t find in the house (he has 100’s). Seriously it went on from morning to night and it’s really upsetting for him he gets agitated, angry, cries and pleads with us to find whatever he’s looking for nothing can change his train of thought. It’s draining me and my husband as it’s not just an occasional thing its almost every day.
He also has behavior problems in school to the point where they have assigned a support worker to him as he doesn’t like to play by rules. On the other side though he is the most loving and affectionate child (when you can switch his thoughts onto something else!) just wondered if it is a medical condition or just his unique personality. A few relatives have mentioned autism but having done my research he is too socially competent to be affected.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Regards,
Answer: Dear Stasia:
Consult with your pediatrician and ask for an evaluation by a qualified infant mental health professional. Trust your instincts as you think something is happening and you need answers.
