My son is one year old. My biggest concern is that he is not pointing. He will reach out with his whole hand and babble something. He waves occasionally, more often he will blow kisses for goodbye and night, night. He will give toys and bring toys for me to see. He loves to follow his big sister around (2 1/2) and imitate her actions. He will mostly just say mama, dada, hi and dog now. How concerned should I be about the possibility of autism at this age with him not pointing or really gesturing.
Thanks
Jennifer
All children develop at their own pace. However, your are concerned and I would check with your doctor. If you still do not feel better about his development request a referral to a infant/toddler developmental specialist.
There is more than just autism which can be responsible for developmental delays, we just hear more about autism. I am not saying he is delayed, I am just saying relax and enjoy him. Let the professionals tell you what they think. Remember these days fly by quickly and he will be all grown up in a blink of an eye. You can savor the moments by enjoying him and not letting worry steal your joy!
Best Wishes!
