Subject: 19 year old son
Question: My 19 year old son is away at college. He makes good grades, has a wonderful girlfriend, plays baseball, and has always been a sensitive person. Recently, he got red-shirted in baseball. This upset him. After this happened, he is having mixed feelings about his relationship with his girlfriend, feels like he has no friends, questions his abilities in baseball and has started drinking a little.
He has always detested drinking due to his father being an alcoholic. He hates his life. Please help me.
Answer: Dear Carla,
Have you told him you are concerned? Is the legal drinking age 18 in your state? If not, then he is breaking the law. When the legal drinking age is 21 it is not okay to drink when you are underage.
I strongly suggest if you do not already do so that you find an alanon meeting. There are now meetings online at www.stepchat.org.
Best Wishes!
