Establishing the connection between the infant and caregiver is a critical element in bonding and attachment that lasts across the lifespan. How we build human connections is through empathic responses to each other. As developing human beings we value connection through our ability to articulate our feelings, wants, desires, and sharing experiences. This is a challenge for many parents with their newborn infants. This video illuminates how much in common we have with our tiny new developing human beings. The more we know about their internal processes the more we can support them in their emotional, physical, and cognitive development. That an infant can communicate through sign language in the early part of the first year is an indication of their desire to connect to their parents as well!
