Subject: 23 month old won’t sleep in his room
Question: Hi I have a 23 month old son, he has slept inmy bed up until last week and wakes@least 3 times everynight, I am now working part time and need my sleep and he needs his as he is starting nursery,cn u help,I put him down and he just jumps back out and keeps crying when I put him back in his room, I miss my husband being in my bed,he is on the sofa!!!
Answer: Dear Beena:
Well I will start with the toddler not sleeping and look past you dealing with this on your own (why is hubby sleeping on the sofa and not assisting you?)
You are now working part time (so he senses a loss of you) and he is starting nursery (something new and foreign to him) and you want to know why he is waking up 3 times a night?
He is trying his best to adjust to two new world events, his new world events.
I strongly suggest setting up a nightly bedtime routine and being very consistent with it. Feel free to peruse the numerous prior postings on bedtime routines. I especially encourage you to include massage in his nightly routine as he will sleep deeper and feel more secure. It will be good for both of you.
Remember he cannot help you with your need for sleep or your need to work part time these are not concepts he has the capacity to understand. You will need to do everything you can to right his world otherwise and sticking to morning and nightly (daily routines) is essential to building his level of security.
Hope this helps!
Best Wishes!
